SCSI Interface Tape Drive Emulation with Ethernet Connectivity

The TES-6IP is an extension of the TES-6, stand-alone, reel-to-reel tape drive replacement. The TES-6IP adds ethernet connectivity for remote access to tape files via LAN or WAN. If you haven't already, please review the information on the TES-6.

The TES-6IP-AFD is a direct replacement for a tape drive using a standard SCSI interface. The TES-6IP is connected to the host computer or electronic system using the same cables, controller and software. In your application, the TES-6IP-AFD will look to the host computer just like the original tape drive.

Files are stored on a the solid state (network enabled) ARRAID Flash Drive (AFD), the industrial grade CompactFlash (CF) media takes the place of tape reels. When the computer system and drive are remote, and LAN/WAN access eliminates the need to move physical media, then the fixed ARRAID Flash Drive (AFD) may be used as the primary storage device. Where the movement or storage of media with recorded information is still required, then the ARRAID Flash Drive device can be set as either a removable hard drive module or a removable media cartridge disk drive.

The TES-6IP-AFD is much more than just a tape drive replacement. Using  the FLASH2GUI interface or ftp, an operator at a central location can access the TES-6IP and control the "tape drive". Software in the TES-6IP-AFD allows the operator to extract information from the ARRAID Flash Drive (AFD)  from the tape image format to disk files, and then transfer those files to a central location via the LAN/WAN.

Bi-directional Backup/Restore is fully supported. Multiple backups can be stored on the system/network disk in the TES-6IP-AFD and restored as required. Alternatively, backup images can be uploaded and stored in a central archive. If a Restore is required, the image can be downloaded from archive and restored to the remote host.

The TES-6IP-AFD is ideal for use in remote data collection and logging functions. Applications exist in telephony, seismology, meteorology and military ranges.

Features and Benefits

  • ARRAID Flash Drive (AFD) option is a Solid State SCSI disk replacing traditional mechanical SCSI drives (DAT, QIC, Tape & Magneto Optical Disk)
  • Additional features such as network backup, mirroring, restore and removable media can be added.
  • The CompactFlash (CF) media in the ARRAID Flash Drive (AFD) is treated exactly the same as the floppy disk media. All drive data is stored on the CF media as if were the original diskette media.
  • AFD network feature option offers LAN network (ethernet-based) back-up and restore capability directly from the AFD using the on board RJ45 Network port. No additional software or register changes are required to the legacy host.
  • Includes ARRAIDs FLASH2GUI Software, an optional ethernet support feature for centralised backup and restore capability lessening the reliance to rotate media.  Network option only available on TES-2IP-AFD with AFD network drives installed. Easy to install. No hardware or software changes required, other than the drive itself.
    • Can replace or be added to existing drives.
  • Remote operation of the "tape drive" with file upload capability.
    • Recorded data can be accessed without the need to physically collect and transport media.
  • LCD Operator Panels provides local control over drive functions when required, as well as over the LAN/WAN interface.
  • To enable networking feature the only choice for the primary storage device is the TES-6-IP-AFD with the network enabled Arraid Flash Drive (AFD). The drive may be in a fixed internal mounting or in a removable drive canister.
  • The solid state Arraid Flash Drive (AFD) can be configured as a Disk, Tape or Magneto-Optical drive and has proven successful as the primary storage device in many applications, especially when used in a fully cached TES-6-IP-AFD. Excellent as internal copy/backup devices, these drives and industrial grade CompactFlash (CF) media have the durability to perform well for many years.
  • With tape head alignment no longer an issue, CompactFlash (CF) media may be moved from drive to drive without concern for readability.
  • High reliability with near zero maintenance required.
  • Greater computer system availability with lower cost of ownership.
  • Stores the content of multiple 1/2-inch tape reels on a single piece of CompactFlash (CF) media.
  • Allows for a longer duration between file uploads or exchange of media.
